Houston will see more two-story grocery stores inside Loop 610 as the rising cost of land forces developers to build vertically.
Grocers are finding it harder to find large tracts of land to build traditional, suburban-style stores closer in town, Jason Gaines, a retail broker with NAI Partners, said in a recent breakfast presentation.
“Retailers are building multilevel, not because they’re trying to project a certain image but because they have to,” Gaines said. “It’s more expensive, with more X factors. It takes a little more daring.”
