Purchase of 16602 Cypress Rosehill Road arranged by NAI Partners for Greater Houston Area’s 72nd brewery, a partnership between Fortress BeerWorks and Misfit Brewing

Cypress, TX, October 1, 2021 – NAI Partners—the commercial real estate services business of Partners Real Estate Company—arranged the 1,232-sq.-ft. acquisition of Misfit Outpost’s craft brewery location at 16602 Cypress Rosehill Road in Cypress, the former location of The Shack Burger Resort. Misfit Outpost is the 72nd craft brewery in the Greater Houston Area, and the newest in a string of recent local brewery openings.

Misfit Outpost—a partnership between Fortress BeerWorks and Misfit Brewing—flung its doors open on Friday, September 3, and the 5-acre family- and dog-friendly site has already established itself as a go-to destination in Cypress. It offers live music on weekends, a burger-fueled food menu, Misfit’s own beers brewed on-site, and sudsy offerings from Fortress BeerWorks—both on the tapwall and 16-oz canned to-go options—as well.

Misfit Outpost

NAI Partners’ Chris Caudill arranged the sale for Misfit Outpost, and also completed the lease for Fortress BeerWorks’ current location at 2606 Spring Cypress Road in Spring, Texas.

“Since opening Fortress three years ago in Spring, the craft beer community’s support has been overwhelming,” said Fortress BeerWorks co-founder and co-owner John O’Hara. “When the right opportunity arose to partner with Juan, help him go pro and get his delicious recipes in front of a wider audience, it was a no-brainer.”

Misfit Outpost began life as a homebrew project for founder Juan Sanchez, who quickly amassed a devoted following via photographs of his beers on Instagram—many of which were in the highly-sought-after Hazy India Pale Ale category, a beer style beloved by its fans for being extravagantly hopped to coax huge tropical fruit flavors showcased on a soft, creamy, hazy unfiltered body that often resembles a glass of orange juice and can even taste like one.

“While examples of the Hazy India Pale Ale have become a staple in the supermarket beer aisle, larger breweries with national footprints are often unable or unwilling to replicate the over-the-top hop saturation and extreme pound-per-barrel dry-hopping rates showcased by the very best producers of the style,” said Larry Koestler, NAI Partners’ Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications, and a craft beer enthusiast and consultant. “Hazy Double IPA obsessives generally need to travel directly to the source to secure cans of the top-tier examples of the style to satisfy their craving for overindulgent, palate-coating, citrusy hop nirvana.”

Added Koestler, “Houston has a deep and talented homebrew scene, with several local professional breweries having been launched by homebrewers, though this collaborative physical location arrangement between Misfit and Fortress is the first of its kind locally. It’s always exciting when an up-and-comer you’ve been following and have enjoyed samples from goes pro, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the next homebrewer that wants to take the leap to the big leagues.”

Per the Houston Business Journal, Fortress BeerWorks is the 25th-Largest Houston-Area Brewery ranked by barrels produced locally, brewing 470 in 2020.
